I can spend all day looking at well-executed cinemagraphs. I’ve developed a certain anticipation as I wait for one to load, guessing what the static and moving elements will be. The third entry in my Flixel Cinemagraph Highlights series comes from Mariah Harkey. The thing I love about this particular cinemagraph is in its execution. If this was a still photo, you’d probably attempt to capture it just as the skipping stone left the person’s hand or perhaps as it makes contact with the water. However, with this cinemagraph, you get the best of both worlds and it’s another example of how its effective use can add many layers to visual storytelling.
