Even though most photos from Trillium Lake tend to look somewhat similar—with the beautiful Mt. Hood standing regally in the background—a big variable that I always enjoy is the weather. After visiting the lake yesterday, I was reminded about how whimsical Mother Nature can be. When I arrived, about 90 minutes before sunset, there were hardly any clouds in the sky.

Then, out of nowhere, some lenticular clouds formed. Fortunately, they stuck around long enough for sunset, so they caught those beautiful yellows and oranges. Then the blue hour came and went, leading to what I was hoping to be relatively clear skies. But, the weather had different plans as a huge bank of surface layer clouds rolled in, blocking most of the mountain and sky. Oh well. As they say, there’s always next time!
