The vastness of Kawa’a, Hawaii

I think it’s as good of a time as any to shift from the frigid temps of the arctic circle to the tropical climate of Hawaii. One of my favorite places to get a great representation of what sort of terrain Hawaii offers is at Kawa’a. The path to get to this particular beach is not well-marked and it’s so rugged that you absolutely want to have a 4WD vehicle with good clearance.

While the big draw of this area is actually directly behind me, I amexceptionally fond of this particular view. Here, you have a sprawling vista lined with all sorts of lava rock covered in bright green vegetation. The view keeps unraveling as you travel further through the frame, with the rolling hills and mountains that the Big Island is famous for. There is no doubt that the southern part of this island will always have a special place in my heart.
