My original goal on this shoot was to find that one solitary tree covered in snow but anytime I saw one, it was invariably lost in busy backgrounds. When I came across this grouping of trees the other week, I wasn’t sure whether I could make a photo work out of it. Admittedly, I tend to shy away from photos that are too busy or cluttered. With that said, there is a certain appeal to the chaos of this photo and in hindsight, I’m glad that I spent some time working on it to share.
This photo was taken with my Sony a7R and Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 super telephoto lens. In fact, if I didn’t have this lens with me, I wouldn’t have been able to get nearly this tight without some severe cropping in post, so I guess there is something to be said about the bigger glass. I had my Formatt-Hitech 105mm circular polarizer on to cut some of the glare, which worked wonders.
