Nature Juxtaposed

I remember beelining it to this tree the second I laid eyes on it upon first entering this area of White Pocket in the Vermilion Cliffs. Imagine being surrounded by miles of this undulating brain rock and off in the distance is a beautiful, solitary tree just sprouting up. I mean, how does this even happen? It just seemed so perfectly out of place and I couldn’t have been happier about it. Nature really is amazing.

I ended up using a Metabones adapter to connect my Canon 70-200 telephoto lens onto my Sony A7  to maximize compression between the layers thru the image. The rock feet that I had attached to my +Really Right Stuff TQC-14 travel tripod was an MVP for this shoot because it allowed the legs to get a really good grip. Stylization was done using a custom cross-processed filter in Analog Efex Pro 2, part of the +Nik Collection by Google.
