One wrong turn

Today, I’m joining a group of wonderfully talented photographers, such as Matt Glastonbury, Lauren Bath, jn and others, on an adventure throughout Australia, put together by the fine folks at Topdeck Travel. To whet our appetites, we spent the day at the Tangalooma Island Resort located on Moreton Island in Queensland. One of the first things we had an opportunity to photograph was this array of shipwrecks just off the coast of the resort that now serve as ad-hoc breakers. It was really wonderful to see the variety of vessels that were jutting out from the water’s surface.

To get this photo, I stacked my Formatt-Hitech 10-Stop IRND filter and 105mm circular polarizer filter (also by Formatt-Hitech), giving me about 12 stops of light loss. This let me drag my shutter to 30-seconds – enough time to glass out the water, provide some movement to the billowy clouds and capture the streak of a cruise ship that sailed by. Stylization was achieved using Nik Analog Efex Pro and Lightroom.

Do NOT touch the ship hull without wearing divers gloves. The barnacles will go through your flesh like razors… Trust me…
