The Eyes Should Always Be Filming

The Eyes Should Always Be Filming

I remember walking down the stairs from our room onto this beach in Bandon, OR with Matt Kloskowski. We were racing over to get some prime spots to shoot this gorgeous sunset. As you can see in this image, we still had a few good minutes to test different shots out but for me, as soon as I hit the sand, I beelined it to this particular stretch of beach. Why?

Because as I was racing down the stairs, I was paying attention to the area in front of me. I was looking around, quickly trying to notice anything jump out at me more than other things. It was at this point that I noticed a patch of sand that held a good amount of ocean water well after the tide rushed back out. The reason that this was critical for me was because I also noticed that this puddle was still enough to produce a beautiful reflection of the sky above. And what a sky it was!

So the point here is that you really always need to be on. If your eyes aren’t looking through your camera, they should be working with your brain and legs to move to your next shot. You’ll rest when you’re back home.

In terms of processing
This image didn’t need much of any stylization so everything was done in Lightroom 4.3. I went heavy with the vignette but for the most part, this is as my eyes saw it.

Easily one of my favorite shots of yours. Period.

Also, it reminds me of the beach I got married on. Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur.

Fantastic shot – I think you bee-lined it because you had great structure in the rocks ahead and you could line that up well w/ the setting sun. Stunning, really. Nicely done, Brian!

I did that exact same thing there.  The light was leaving fast and it was windy enough to get blown out to sea.  That and I felt like I was in the Goonies.
Beautiful capture of a stunning place.

Beautiful capture Brian. Very good advice also. I have always had a God given gift for seeing things {especially in nature} that most others do not notice because of the way I look at life, Through the lens.

I wish I could wake up to that every mourning, only if I have beach house.
