Always, faithfully beautiful

I don’t care how many images of Multnomah Falls I’ve taken and shared, I’ll never get tired of working on them. There is something so especially regal about this landmark. It’s no surprise that it is the go to destination when visiting the Columbia River Gorge. You’ll reap most of the rewards of having the place to yourself by visiting in the early morning hours, during weekdays, and during more extreme weather.

In terms of processing

This look was achieved by combining Magic Forest and Magic Ocean_ while masking a bit of a Blue filter onto the water, done in Perfect Effects 4 by onOne Software.

I think the real magic happens because of FocalPoint 2. By applying the shallow depth of field simulation to the area of the falls just beyond the bridge, I feel that there is a really cool 3D effect.

Final touches were applied in Lightroom 4.3

Great image +Brian Matiash! , I am adding this to my to-do list next time I'm up in Portland. The bridge just adds a whole other dimension to the image.  Thank you for sharing the location info!

I'll never get tired of it either, and I grew up here.

That's the school-bus-sized rock that fell from the wall of the upper falls a few years ago, in the upper pool.

For many years, Multnomah Falls was the #1 most visited tourist attraction in Oregon—then they built a casino.

Is this taken from the parking lot or somewhere higher? Looks higher to me.

Great shot. Can't wait to do some water motion photography, myself.

At first glance, slightly unfocused early in the morning, the whole image takes on an other-worldly feel — just metal shapes between rough shapes. Nice.

Even without the bridge it is an awesome place, but the bridge just seems to add that extra special dimension to the falls. I love the photos I have of it, and want to get out there on a cold winter morning to get some photos of ice. Not sure we are going to get the cold weather this winter though.

Beautiful place that is on my bucket list.  I always wanted to find a photo of the splash in 1995 when a truck sized boulder came crashing down.  Went back to Google and finally found a shot of the 70 foot wave here:  http://friendsofmultnomahfalls.org/photos.html
