One of the first things I did after booking my trip to Cambodia was consult with my good bud, Colby Brown. You likely know and follow Colby already so no introduction really needs to be made. Colby has been a wonderful resource while planning for this trip and I remember one of his first descriptions of the area – It’s a beautiful country filled with beautiful people. It’s a phrase that I have found to be 100% true – so much so that I’ve even co-opted it.
Yesterday was Day 5 in Cambodia. We marked it by departing Phnom Penh and made our way to Battambang, the second largest city in Cambodia (Phnom Penh being #1). Thankfully, we travelled in a comfortable passenger van there, replete with air conditioning and comfy seats. The trip took the better part of the day because we stopped to photograph various scenes, including water buffalo grazing and a clay workshop.
It was at this clay workshop where I photographed this woman on her bicycle, hauling whatever it was that she had in her baskets. And it really did hit me – these people are amazing. Whereas I’d throw whatever load I had into the vast and spacious trunk of my crossover SUV, this woman piled it onto the back of her bike. And this is tame in comparison to some of the things I’ve seen Cambodian people haul on the back of their bikes and motorbikes. These people truly are amazing.
We’re just waking up for Day 6 here and I have no doubt my amazement will continue growing.
In terms of processing
All done in Perfect Effects 4 by onOne Software. I applied Magic Forest to the entire scene and then masked in a custom Tone Enhancer effect onto the bicyclist while masking Charge More glow onto the scene.
Final touches were applied in Lightroom 4.2.
